Saturday 8 October was an amazing day for Sylvia James who celebrated her 90th birthday at Lutterell Hall.
Sylvia’s day was organised by her family.
Lutterell Hall has a very special place in Sylvia’s heart.
It was way back in 1948, as a member of St Giles Church Fellowship, who after Evensong in the church went over to the Hall for their meetings, and to play table tennis and badminton during the week, in those immediate post-war years.
It was there that she met her future husband Derek, they married in 1955, Sylvia says there were many other Fellowship weddings!
Fast forward to 2018 with the threat of demolition of the Hall and Sylvia was among the early campaigners to save the hall for the community.
So this was a very special celebration in the Hall – poignantly surrounded with the rubble of the Police Station – with her family and friends.
Sylvia was happily able to replicate a Fellowship Reunion photograph taken in 2011 with over 100 Fellowship members, which last year Sylvia gave to the Rock Church, and is now hanging in the foyer of the Hall, maintaining that link with the Fellowship.
