Appeal after alleged Notts shop thief threatens staff with a knife

A man who walked out of a shop with stolen clothing clearly on show threatened staff with a knife when they attempted to intervene.

The thief raised his right hand revealing the weapon and told staff ‘don’t even think about it’.

The Original Factory Shop’s Store Manager Avi Goldman has been supporting colleagues welfare following the incident.

He said: “Thankfully this is a really rare occurrence. I’ve been here six years now and this is the first type of incident I’ve ever known of.

“Colleagues were obviously shaken up and we’re making sure their welfare is well looked after.

“It’s obviously a scary and serious incident. I rang police straight away and we’re now all hoping we can find the offender. It’s just lucky that no one was injured.

“I’ve had team briefings and these types of events are a new one on us. It’s business as usual. I’ve got colleagues here who have been here over 20 years and not seen anything like this.”

Detective Constable Michael Booth of Nottinghamshire Police is leading the investigation.

He said: “This must have been a horrible experience for the staff who were threatened.

“The man made no attempt to disguise what he was doing.

“The man stole clothing to the value of £112 of Adidas sportswear. A staff member challenged saying he needed to pay for the items, but he then revealed the knife, before leaving.

“We’ve now issued an image of a man we would like to speak to in connection with the incident. We believe by speaking to him, he could help with our enquiries.

“He’s been described as white, around 6’0 tall and slim build. He was wearing bright orange work-wear style trousers and a long dark blue jacket. He was also carrying an orange carrier bag, had a blue face mask obscuring his face and a black beanie hat on.

“He left in the direction of Carlton in Lindrick before the store manager rang the police.

“We are now appealing to anyone who saw the incident at The Original Factory Shop in Doncaster Road in Langold at around 4pm on Thursday (29 April 2021) or has any information to call 101, quoting incident 482 of 29 April 2021.”
