A driver has died following a road traffic collision in Twycross yesterday.
Police were called shortly before 2:10 am yesterday (Wednesday 2 August) to a report of a car on fire in woodland off Ashby Road.
Officers attended alongside Leicestershire Fire and Rescue and the fire, which caused extensive damage to the vehicle, was extinguished.
A man, in his fifties, was found deceased in the driver’s seat of the copper chrome Ford Fiesta.
From an initial examination of the scene, it is believed that the car left the road before colliding with a number of trees causing it to set on fire.
Detective Sergeant Ed Des-Chanelle from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) said: “At the time of the collision, we believe the Fiesta was travelling from the direction of Twycross in the direction of Measham before it left the road.
“I would be very keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle beforehand and the collision itself.
“Alternatively, if you have any CCTV or dash cam footage which also captured the vehicle please also get in touch.”
