Appeal after hit-and-run incident involving ‘several cars’ leaves two in hospital

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after two people were injured in a suspected hit-and-run.

Emergency services were called to North Gate, Newark, shortly after 11 pm yesterday (Sunday) evening after a collision involving several cars.

A man and a woman travelling in one of the cars were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The driver of another vehicle left the scene before police arrived.

Several parked cars were also damaged near the junction with Meyrick Road.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw a car travelling at high speed in the moments before the collision.

Detective Sergeant Andrea Brown, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a serious road traffic collision that left two people in hospital. We are working to understand what happened in the moments leading up to this collision and to identify the driver, who left the scene as emergency services arrived.

“To this end, we would like to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the moments leading up to this collision. We would particularly like to speak to anybody with dashcam footage of a car being driven at high speed in the area yesterday.”
