Appeal after van crashes into lamppost and fails to stop at scene

The force of the collision uprooted the lamppost and caused significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

Police are appealing for information and dashcam footage after power cables were exposed when a van crashed into a lamppost.

The driver did not stop at the scene following the incident in Bramcote Avenue, Chilwell, around 4.20pm on Friday 28 March.

The force of the collision uprooted the lamppost and caused significant damage to the front of the vehicle.

Police Constable Jack Marriott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“We want to speak to the van driver and take his account of what happened.

“The concrete lamppost was severely damaged and the exposed cabling would have been extremely dangerous to any pedestrians who happened to be passing by.

“We know this is a busy road and there were a number of cars passing the scene around this time.

“The front of the van was also damaged so will have been noticeable to other road users.

“Any motorists who saw the incident, or have any dashcam footage, should get in touch without delay to assist with our investigation.”

Anyone who can help should call police on 101, quoting incident number 504 of 28 March 2025, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
