Arboretum car stop leads to cannabis deal bags find

Officers immediately noticed a zip-locked sandwich bag in the car’s footwell.

Knife crime officers uncovered a sandwich bag packed full of cannabis during one of their patrols.

The Nottingham-based specialist team found the drugs stash within moments of pulling over a car.

An officer in plain clothes made the initial observation while they were out in the police car in the Arboretum area. Their suspicions were aroused when they saw the vehicle stop at the side of the road and multiple people get in and out again.

Believing drug deals could be taking place, the officer radioed the rest of the team to make their way to Wollaton Street when the car stopped again. Uniformed members of the knife crime team arrived soon after – around 7.20 pm on Saturday (7 December) – switching on their blue lights in the process.

Officers immediately noticed a zip-locked sandwich bag in the car’s footwell, which was found to contain 32 individual deal bags filled with cannabis. A plastic bag full of cannabis cuttings was also discovered, along with three jars containing quantities of the Class B drug.

Police then arrested a 24-year-old woman at the scene on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply Class B drugs.

PC Ken Tinley, of Nottinghamshire Police’s knife crime team, said:

“While our first point of call when we’re out on patrol is to try and detect knife crime offences, we always keep our eyes out for other offences too.

“That includes drug activity, as there does tend to be links between people involved in this type of criminality and knife-carrying.

“While that was obviously not the case on this occasion, our tactic of making use of plain-clothed officers did lead to us making this cannabis discovery.

“It really should go without saying, but there is no excuse for anyone to ever deal drugs in our communities – whether that be Class A, B, or C drugs.

“Any time we can take drugs off the streets is undoubtedly a good thing, so it’s pleasing to have made this discovery and arrested a suspect.”
