Armed police make arrest after reports of ‘person carrying a gun’ in Nottingham city centre

A suspect was arrested by armed police minutes after concerned members of the public reported seeing a person carrying a gun.

Officers were called at 12.49pm this afternoon (Sunday) to Cranbrook Street, Nottingham city centre.

Armed officers rushed to the scene and detained a suspect in nearby Lower Parliament Street a short time later.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing an  imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He remains in police custody.

Superintendent Kathryn Craner, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We take reports of this nature extremely seriously and immediately dispatched armed police officers to the area.


• A suspect was arrested after a man was stabbed in a city centre street this morning at 5:40 am 31 October

•  Four boys, three aged 17 and one aged 16, were arrested after a teenager was stabbed in the stomach on 31 October

“This incident will understandably have caused considerable alarm to witnesses, but I hope they will have been reassured by the swift and overwhelming police response.

“I hope this incident serves as a warning to others about the potential consequences of carrying an imitation weapon in public.”
