Armed police have arrested a man and a woman and recovered a knife and what is believed to be a gun.
Officers stopped the pair after they got off a bus at Worksop bus station at around 1.30 pm today.
They have been taken into custody for questioning as enquiries are continuing.
Chief Inspector James Woolley, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The weapons were not used in any way and no threats were made. They were recovered during a stop and search.
“A number of people will have seen the police activity at the bus station and I would like to reassure them that there is no suggestion that there was any risk to the public.
“Officers acted quickly and professionally to take the two people into custody and recover the weapons.
“Carrying a firearm is a serious offence and one that Nottinghamshire Police takes extremely seriously. We will act on intelligence to ensure Nottinghamshire remains safe.
“If you suspect anyone of being in possession of a firearm, please report it to Nottinghamshire Police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
