Detectives are investigating after reports that a gun was fired in a street.
Officers were called to Tulip Avenue, St Ann’s, when witnesses reported what they believed to be a gunshot shortly before 5.20pm (Tuesday 17 May).
Armed response units immediately attended the scene and searched the area.
Nobody was injured and enquiries are continuing to trace the suspects.
Specialist search teams will remain in the area for much of today (Wednesday) as an extensive search is carried out.
Detective Inspector Ruby Burrow, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are taking this report extremely seriously and would like to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Hungerhill Road and Tulip Close areas yesterday afternoon.
“We would especially like to speak to anyone who saw two men dressed in dark clothing who were seen in the area that time.
“Although firearms incidents are thankfully very rare, we are aware they can cause considerable concern in our communities.
“For this reason, our officers will be undertaking additional local reassurance patrols in the coming days as a full and thorough investigation is carried out.”
