A suspect was located and arrested just minutes after a man was assaulted and robbed.
Police were called to Windsor Road, Mansfield, shortly after 11pm, after members of the public witnessed what happened.
After tending to the victim at the scene officers noticed a man walking nearby who fitted the description of the alleged assailant.
A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and robbery.
He remains in police custody.
The victim was treated in hospital for cuts and bruises but was not seriously injured.
Inspector Nick Butler, district commander for Mansfield, said: “This was a nasty incident that was phoned into us by concerned members of the public.
“Officers were quickly on the scene and, thanks to a good bit of police work, soon had a suspect in custody. Incidents like this are rare but when they do happen we take them extremely seriously and do whatever we can to find those responsible and get justice for victims.”
