Officers were quickly on the scene to arrest one man after a report of two men fighting following an argument near to Trent Bridge.
A man suffered significant facial injuries and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.
Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson is leading the investigation. She said: “We were called at around 9.45 pm on Thursday to a report of an assault.
“Officers quickly detained a 53-year-old man on suspicion of GBH and he remains in police custody.
“The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries believed to be non-life threatening.
“We are still keen to hear from anyone who have witnessed the fight. Please call 101, quoting incident 882 of 30 July 2020.”
