A suspect has been arrested after a street thief was caught on CCTV using a bizarre dance to distract a victim before stealing his mobile phone.
Officers believe the pickpocket pretended to be drunk in order to trick the victim into thinking he was simply in a cheerful mood.
Footage showed the thief approach a man in Clumber Street shortly after 7.30am on Sunday 16 November.
After greeting the man with a fist bump and engaging him in conversation, he performed a bizarre dance where he placed one of his legs between the victim’s leg and jumped up and down.
Moments after the incident, the man realised his mobile phone was no longer in his coat pocket.
A suspect was arrested earlier this week by officers attending an unrelated burglary in Gregory Boulevard on Sunday (23 November).
The 33-year-old has been charged with that burglary, along with another burglary in Norton Street, Radford, on 13 November.
He was further arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with the Clumber Street incident. Enquiries into that matter remain ongoing.
The suspect appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court in relation to the two burglaries on Tuesday (25 November) and was remanded into custody.
He will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 16 December.
