Arrest after police officer allegedly headbutted attending disturbance

A man has been arrested after a police officer was reportedly assaulted.

Officers were called to Gibbons Avenue, Stapleford, after receiving reports that a disturbance was taking place.

While attempting to calm the situation, a police officer was then allegedly headbutted.

The officer suffered no injuries during the incident, which happened at around 10.45am on Wednesday (25 May 2022).

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker.

Sergeant Rob Palethorpe, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It is important the people understand that assaulting a police officer is completely unacceptable and is not just part of the job.

“We will never tolerate this kind of behaviour against any of our officers or emergency service workers, who all dedicate their lives to keeping the community safe from harm.

“We have now arrested a suspect in connection with this incident but our enquiries remain ongoing, so we’d ask anyone with information that could assist our investigation to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
