Arrest after sexual assault at Forest Rec – police treating incident as alleged rape

A man has been arrested following a serious sexual assault at a Nottingham park.

Officers were called to the Forest Recreation Ground at 7.56pm by a member of the public who found a woman in distress on Monday evening (19 January).

Detectives previously appealed for information about this incident on Tuesday (20 January), which is now being treated as rape.

A 52-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with this incident on suspicion of rape and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He remains in police custody.

The victim is in her 30s and is being supported by specially-trained officers.

Detective Inspector Ed Cook, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Public Protection Unit, said:

“I recognise that this incident may have caused concern for members of the public and we have been working tirelessly to investigate this incident.  

“We continue to maintain a visible presence in the area. Please speak with us if you have any concerns.

“If you witnessed anything in the area or have relevant dashcam footage from Monday evening, I would urge you to report it to us.”

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 617 of 19 January 2026, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
