Arrest after street robbery in Nottingham

A suspect has been arrested shortly after a victim reported being robbed and punched.

Officers were called to the incident in Pelham Street, Nottingham city centre, last night (Saturday 26 March) at around 10.50pm, after the victim reported that a bag he was carrying had been stolen and being punched to the face.

Enquiries then led to a suspect being spotted near to the scene with the stolen bag located nearby.

A 28-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

He remains in custody as enquiries continue.

Detective Sergeant Alana Scott, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an unprovoked assault on a victim which will undoubtedly have left him shaken.

“Thankfully the victim was not seriously injured.

“Thanks to the quick work by officers and the victim reporting it so quickly we were able to act fast and arrest a suspect in relation to this incident and make a further arrest after finding a weapon.

“This type of behaviour will never be tolerated, and as we have shown with this incident we will always take robust action and act quickly to apprehend anyone found to be breaking the law.”
