A suspect was arrested after allegations that a series of sexualised images were sent to a person purporting to be a child.
The 46-year-old man was arrested on Thursday evening in the Beeston Rylands area after police were called by members of the public.
It is alleged that he sent numerous sexualised images and messages to an adult posing as a 12-year-old girl.
He was interviewed under caution and later released on police bail while investigations continue.
Detective Sergeant Lloyd Goucher, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We work extremely hard to keep vulnerable young children safe and take reports of this kind of activity extremely seriously.
“Our investigation is at an early stage but we will leave no stone unturned as we work to establish exactly what has happened here.”
