Arrest in connection with Bingham hammer attack after man hands himself in to police

A suspect is due to appear in court charged in connection with an alleged hammer attack.

Detectives launched an investigation after reports a man was struck to the head in Station Street, Bingham, at around 11.30pm on Friday (2 July).

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries were not life-threatening.

A man was arrested in connection with the incident yesterday (Tuesday 6 July) after handing himself in to police.

A 24-year-old man from Bingham has subsequently been charged with wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday 7 July).

Detective Constable Georgina Gallagher, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “As a force we treat all reports of weapon-enabled violence with the utmost seriousness and will always work hard to seek justice for victims of violent crime.

“This remains a live investigation and as such we are still asking anyone who witnessed this incident or who may have recorded footage to please get in touch with us.”
