Arrest made after a fire in a Nottingham house

Detectives investigating a small blaze inside a house have arrested a man on suspicion of arson.

Firefighters were called to a blaze at a property in Berridge Road West, Hyson Green, at 7.30pm on Sunday night (31 October).

When they arrived, they found a door inside the house had been badly damaged by fire.

No-one was hurt as the fire did not take hold and was out by the time firefighters arrived.

Police were called due to the suspicious nature of the fire and officers arrested a 32-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

Detective Inspector Kayne Rukas, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We believe this was an isolated incident involving people who are known to each other.

“Thankfully no-one was hurt but clearly this incident could have been a lot worse.

“I would like to reassure residents that we are investigating the incident and our enquiries are continuing today.

“I would also urge anyone in the area to come forward and talk to us if they have any information that could assist our investigation.”
