Arrests after cannabis grow found over three bedrooms of property

Police made two arrests after uncovering a cannabis grow when they quickly traced a driver.

Officers were called to Rosemary Street, in Mansfield, after reports a vehicle had been involved in an incident at around 11.20 am on Monday (29 August 2022).

They traced the car to an address in Byron Street, Mansfield, and gained access to the property.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s Tactical Support Group noticed a strong smell of cannabis and lights could be seen coming from the bedrooms.

A search revealed a substantial cannabis grow of around 50 plants spanning over three bedrooms on the upper floors of the property.

Two men, aged 37 and 38, were arrested on suspicion of production of drugs.

Police Constable Dan Vasper, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was an excellent piece of instinctive police work by all the officers involved.

“Cannabis production is far from being harmless. It can often be linked to wider, organised criminality.

“The cultivation of cannabis can also be dangerous not only to the property and people at the address but also to the wider community with the risk of fire.

“Drug production has the potential to be linked to more serious offences, with criminals often exploiting the most vulnerable people to help line their own pockets.

“That is why the force remains determined to crack down on these sort of criminal enterprises and remove drugs from circulation.”
