A teenager was arrested after police responded to reports of a man waving a baseball bat around in Nottingham city centre.
Officers were called to Shakespeare Street at 8.20am on Thursday (16 January) after several members of the public reported a man shouting and acting aggressively with the weapon.
The suspect was located a short time in nearby Chaucer Street and detained by officers.
A baseball bat was recovered and a knife was also seized from the suspect.
The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and using threatening / abusive words / behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
He was subsequently taken into custody for questioning.
Sergeant Jono Pothercary, of the City Centre neighbourhood policing team, said:
“There is no excuse to be walking around the city with an offensive weapon and I’m pleased the suspect was quickly detained.
“I’d like to thank the members of the public who alerted us to this incident so we could bring it to a swift and safe conclusion.”
