Police foiled potential house burglaries and thefts from cars after responding to suspicious activity on a residential street.
Officers were called to Felstead Road, Beechdale, shortly before 4am this morning (Sunday) when the occupants of a car were seen to try to open a doors of houses and cars on the street.
Two suspects were detained at the scene and a search of the car was carried out.
Inside the officers found three mobile phones, two hammers, two sets of gloves and a bag carrying a small amount of cannabis and drug paraphernalia.
A 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft and vehicle interference. They remain in police custody.
Inspector Gordon Fenwick, district commander for Bilborough, said: “This was a really good bit of work where officers responded very quickly to community concerns.
“We are still at the very early stages of our investigation but I hope local residents are reassured by the speed and effectiveness of our response in this case.
“If you see any suspicious activity on your street please call the police immediately and we will take action.”
