Arson suspected after flat fire in New Basford

Police attend an incident in Nottingham following claims a bedroom fire was started deliberately.

Officers were called to Isandula Road, New Basford, after smoke was seen coming from a flat window at 5.40pm last night (Tuesday 6 July).

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service reported the incident to the police.

Police enquiries led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man on suspicion of arson.

An investigation to determine the cause is underway.

Detective Sergeant Louise Bradford, of Nottinghamshire’s criminal investigation department, said: “Clearly this is a very concerning incident as it could have been extremely dangerous.

“My team were at the scene within five minutes to establish the circumstances around the job and swiftly make an arrest.

“The suspect fled the property but was quickly located and detained by officers. He remains in police custody.

“We aren’t looking for anyone else connected to this incident.

“The fire was extinguished and thankfully no one was hurt.”
