A man has been arrested following a sexual assault in Nottingham.
Police were called shortly after 4.45 am on Sunday (23 February) after a young woman was assaulted by a man in York Street, near the Victoria Centre.
A 32-year-old man was arrested this morning (Monday, 24 February) on suspicion of attempted rape. He remains in custody.
Detective Constable Laura Manley, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Public Protection Unit, said:
“While these types of incidents are thankfully rare, I appreciate this incident may cause some concern for members of the public. I would like to reassure them that we have officers in the area, and anyone who is concerned can approach them.
“We’re continuing to work hard on this case and investigate lines of inquiry. The victim is being supported by specially trained officers while we continue with our investigation.
“While we have made an arrest in connection with this incident, we would still like to speak to anybody who was in the area between 4 am and 5 am yesterday morning and who may have seen something.
“If you saw or heard anything suspicious, no matter how insignificant it may seem, we urge you to get in touch, as this information could help us with our investigation.”
