A man has appeared in court after an attempted robbery on a Nottingham city tram.
The victim was targeted as the tram he was travelling on arrived at the Cinderhill stop around 1.30pm on 3 May.
An offender attempted to grab the victim’s mobile phone and struck him repeatedly in the ensuing struggle.
Other passengers intervened before the offender left empty-handed.
Detectives analysed CCTV footage of the incident and a suspect was identified from the footage.
Ahmed Shonibare, aged 49, of Cinderhill Road, Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (8 June) charged with attempted robbery and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on 8 July 2024.
Detective Sergeant Franco Guddemi, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“I hope people who use public transport in the city are reassured by our determined investigation into this incident and the charges which have followed.”
