An award-winning local business, Handmade Nottingham, has expanded to a new location on King’s Walk (near Trinity Square) for a winter pop-up shop.
It’s been a rollercoaster year for the Nottingham brand, from winning the Best Independent Gift Shop category at the 2018 It’s In Nottingham awards, to dealing with the uncertainty of their lease when their landlords, The Malt Cross Trust, announced the closure of the Malt Cross earlier in the summer.
The shop’s St James’ Street location launched as a pop-up shop in November 2014, and is about to celebrate its 4th birthday. Rhea Clements, the owner of the shop, said “I’ve been looking at expanding the business for a couple of years now, as the St James’ Street shop is at capacity but we are always getting enquiries from amazing new designer and makers. The opportunity to run a pop-up shop for the winter came about and after seeing the stunning premises, I couldn’t say no!”
The shop sells products from a wide array of designer/makers and local artists, including Hello Sunshine by Jo Want, Katie Abey, and Black Acres Soap Pantry. It stocks over 80 brands in its new pop-up location on Kings Walk, on top of the 40 brands stocked in the continuing shop on St James’ Street.
It’s been a tough summer for the high street, with uncertainty about the future for businesses like House of Fraser, John Lewis, and H. Samuel, so it’s great to see a Nottingham-grown business that supports our local creative community thriving and expanding in this way.
Handmade Nottingham will be celebrating their 4th Birthday with a shopping evening taking place on 1st Nov at the new pop up shop.
Find the pop up shop at 8 Kings Walk, Nottingham, NG1 2AE from Tuesday to Sunday.
