Beeston – Police arrested a suspected burglar in a garden after being called to a home break-in.
Officers attended Cyprus Avenue, Beeston, around 8.40pm on Sunday (22 September) after a woman reported an intruder was on her property.
The victim had heard her front door closing and when she went to check saw a man in her garden.
Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and located a suspect at the bottom of the garden.
When they searched the man they discovered he was in possession of suspected stolen goods.
A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary.
Detective Sergeant Charlotte Henson, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“We understand the impact this sort of incident can have on any victim.
“No one should have to face an intruder on their own property. The officers who attended should be commended for a rapid response which allowed them to detain a suspect.
“I would also urge householders to please make every effort to avoid becoming a victim by thinking about their home security.
“It doesn’t take much to lock doors and windows and make sure that valuables, including cash, phones or electrical items, are kept out of sight to any passers-by.
“The keys to your property and vehicles should be kept in a safe place out of sight and well away from your letterbox.”
Burglary was made a local crime priority in the Broxtowe area at the start of the year and measures introduced have included increased hot spot patrols, daily targeted arrests of offenders and crime prevention advice to victims.
