Nottingham University Samworth Academy in Bilborough has became an official University College London (UCL) Beacon School for Holocaust Education.
The school – which is part of the Nova Education Trust – joins a handful from across the country to be awarded with the privileged status.
Pupils in Year 9 will be spending the term studying the Holocaust through to its ending and implications.
Head of School, Emma Howard, said: “Working closely with UCL, Nottingham University Samworth Academy is striving to deliver an outstanding Holocaust education to the pupils and community in which it serves.
“The pupils will become the messengers of the future to ensure that the Holocaust is never forgotten.”
The school also delivers whole sessions and activities based upon the Holocaust and Antisemitism.
Recent activities have included a literacy focused week for Holocaust Memorial Day.
During these sessions, pupils read through chapters produced by Tom Palmer, After The War, and participated in group discussions on how the Holocaust impacted the lives of young people.
Nottingham University Samworth Academy have been invited to participate in a Holocaust project led by Royal Wootton Bassett Academy in Swindon.
The project’s focus is based upon the Judge Rinder documentary ‘The Holocaust, My Family and Me’.
It follows the experiences of several relatives of individuals whose families witnessed and fell victim to the event of the Holocaust.
