A long-serving member of staff at school in Bingham has retired after a remarkable 35 years of service.
Beryl Guy, who headed up the cleaning team at Toot Hill, is known by thousands of pupils and teachers who have passed through the doors since the late 1980s.
One of the most popular members of the school staff, always with a smile on her face, Beryl has served under six Head Teachers in over three decades.
She started as an employee of Nottinghamshire County Council where the school cleaning was outsourced to at the time and oversaw the change to the role going in-house, becoming a Toot Hill staff member in 2017.
That change meant ordering equipment and stock, as well as transferring supplies, became the responsibility of Beryl almost overnight and the job role was transformed.
Dr Chris Eardley, Head Teacher at Toot Hill, said: “It’s sad to see Beryl leave her position after an incredible 35 years of service.
“She was our longest-serving member of staff by a considerable margin. However, Beryl certainly never slowed down during these years and was always fully committed to the school.
“Her strong sense of humour will be sorely missed by all and I will personally miss her anecdotes at the end of a busy day. We wish her a fantastic and well-deserved retirement.”
Beryl led a large team of cleaners who are responsible for cleaning every room in the entire school at the end of each day.
Toot Hill has over 2,000 pupils and 300 staff so it was a massive task that Beryl undertook for 35 years of her life, while at the same time also working for two other external cleaning companies.
Simone Cudmore, Site Manager at Toot Hill, said: “Beryl has played an essential role at Toot Hill. She never stops.
“I have a call or a text from her every morning with things she’s thought about or needs, or adjustments to areas. Her energy is endless and I’m going to miss her no end.”
The school is now part of Nova Education Trust and Beryl worked with John Tomasevic (Nova’s original CEO) and Ash Rahman (current CEO), and witnessed the establishment and growth of Nova, as the trust was founded and based at Toot Hill for its first five years.
