Bingham schoolchildren dancing their way to Christmas with help of former Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer

The pupils at Robert Miles Infant School in Bingham have been dancing their way towards the festive period with a little help from a former Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer.

Robin Windsor, a Latin and ballroom dancer, was in Strictly from 2010 to 2013 and danced with celebrities Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson, Lisa Riley and Deborah Meaden.

Having won numerous World Championships at the domestic and international levels, he now gives dance lessons for beginners in ballroom and same-sex ballroom dancing.

With the final of Strictly Come Dancing just around the corner this weekend, it became a perfect opportunity for all year groups at Robert Miles – which is part of the Nova Education Trust – to be able to participate in dance lessons with Robin, as well as Cheryl Lobo from Dance Lobo.

Certificates were given out for great coordination skills in reception and the older children learnt and performed a choreographed dance.

Fleur, who is in reception’s Maple class, took part in the dancing and was very excited to be taught by Robin Windsor as her family are big fans of the show.

She said: “Mostsi is our favourite judge and we want Hamza to win on Saturday. We love the cha-cha-cha dances and Robin was the best dance teacher.”

Another pupil, Teddy, was so inspired by the dance lessons that he joined Cheryl Lobo’s dance school and is learning a variety of freestyle, ballroom and Latin dances.

The pupils in Year 1 Cedar class would like Molly or Helen to win, while pupils Lucy and Edie are watching a lot of Strictly and really enjoyed the musicals week.

In the dance class, the children learnt a routine to Chim Chim Cher-ee from Mary Poppins.

The Cedar class pupils said: “We loved having Robin Windsor in and especially the part in our waltz where we enjoyed blowing a kiss in our dance.”

Sonja Adams, Head Teacher at Robert Miles, said: “We are passionate about providing our children with the very best experiences and it doesn’t get much better than working with a professional dancer.

“The children were taught the Viennese Waltz, which they performed beautifully. Our children, families and staff are all massive Strictly fans, so this was a real treat.”
