Police have now significantly reduced a cordon, enabling many people to return their homes, following the discovery of suspicious packages in Lenton.
A controlled explosion was carried out after a package was found in Maxwell Court. Following inquiries, it was confirmed the package posed no risk to the public.
Specialist search teams are still assessing a package found in nearby Allington Avenue.
A smaller cordon remains in place until it can be made safe.
Affected people, many of whom are students, have been provided with temporary accommodation by the city’s universities. Local families impacted have been taken in by relatives and friends.
As part of their investigation police have since detained a man under the Mental Health Act.

A controlled explosion has been carried out as police continue to investigate a suspicious incident in Nottingham this evening.
Police said at 10:19 pm Friday 28 June:
Work is ongoing to keep people safe after two suspicious packages were found in Lenton – one in Allington Avenue and the other in nearby Maxwell Court.
The package found in Maxwell Court has now been safely dealt with by Explosive Ordinance Disposal engineers.
A second controlled explosion is planned regarding the other package, but cordons remain in place until it can be made safe.
Roads in the area remain closed.

Cordons remain in place in Allington Avenue, Lenton, and surrounding areas while police continue to investigate a suspicious incident.
Emergency services have been in attendance since around 2pm today (28 June) following a report of a suspicious package.
The site of this package has been established and Explosive Ordinance Disposal engineers are at the scene.
People are advised to stay away from the area until further notice, while residents from Allington Avenue and the surrounding areas have been evacuated as a precaution.
A cordon is in place and roads are closed in Lenton on Derby Road, between the junctions of Welby Avenue and Harrington Drive.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson said: “This is an ongoing incident and we’re dealing with it as a major incident, alongside other emergency services, and will be providing further regular updates on our website and social media.
“Residents are urged to avoid the area at this time and we’d like to thank them for their patience and understanding.”

‘People are advised to avoid Allington Avenue, The Park, while police investigate a suspicious incident.
‘Emergency services have been responding to the incident since around 2pm today and a police cordon has been set up.
‘Residents have been evacuated as a precaution.’
‘Other streets in the surrounding area are also being evacuated as a precaution.’
Road closures are also in place between Derby Road and Park Road, The Park, and will remain so for some time.
