Bonfire Night dispersal order issued in Beeston town centre

A dispersal order has been put in place in Beeston town centre to help officers address dangerous and antisocial behaviour on Bonfire Night.

The order, which will be in effect throughout 5 November, empowers officers to direct individuals to leave the area and—if necessary—escort them home to their parents.

This action follows concerns raised about antisocial behaviour by young people over the Halloween weekend.

Sergeant Simon Boyles said:

“Whilst most young people will enjoy Bonfire Night in a safe and responsible way, we know from experience that there will be others who use the occasion as an excuse to behave in an antisocial and dangerous manner.

“Those people are on notice that if we catch them behaving in this way, they will, at the very least, be ordered to leave the town centre.

“They may also find themselves being taken home by a police officer and having to explain their behaviour to their parents.

“If needs be, we will of course arrest people committing criminal offences, but we plan to make full use of this order to keep people and property safe in our town centre.”
