Bonington Cinema to offer membership for 16-25 year olds

Bonington Theatre and Cinema will be offering 16-25 year olds a membership scheme which enables members to access a range of offers including reduced price tickets, workshops, events and special screenings thanks to funding from the British Film Institute (BFI).

With support of the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery, the cinema has been granted £8,000 as part of its Young Audiences Generation Scheme to allow the cinema to launch a membership scheme with the aim of increasing the number of young people attending local cinemas primarily by introducing a new programme of screenings and ticketing scheme for this age group.

The programme includes showings of some of the latest blockbuster, independent and award winning films as well as a series of exclusive events with guest speakers and special screenings, centred on short-film, video content, advertising and journalism.

The funding will allow the council run cinema, which is located on Front Street, Arnold, to offer reduced price tickets for some of the biggest cinema showings with the tickets costing £4.

The theatre and cinema will reopen its doors on 17 May in line with the government’s roadmap.

The cinema will initially have a capacity of 50 that will increase in June subject to the government further relaxing measures as part of the roadmap return to normal. Social distancing measures will be in place and all promotions are subject to the government relaxing current measures in May and June.

David Popple, Manager of the Bonington Theatre and Cinema said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be launching this new membership scheme for 16-25 year olds. The funding has allowed us to reach young people and offer an incredible programme of film screenings, events, workshops that will allow young people to learn more about the film industry without it costing the earth.

We want to support members of our local community who may not be able to access cinema normally and we’re incredibly grateful for the funding from the British Film Institute, Film Hub Midlands and Into Film following a very difficult year for arts and culture, this is a really exciting time for young people in the borough.”
