Plans for a new café, toilets and community space at Bramcote Hills Park are set to move forward following a feasibility study.
Broxtowe Borough Council’s Cabinet approved further funding for the project at a meeting on Tuesday 29 September.
The money will be used to develop more detailed designs, carry out site surveys and investigations, and appoint specialist consultants as the scheme progresses to RIBA Stage 3.
The work is intended to put the council in a position to seek external funding for the project, including potential investment through the East Midlands Combined County Authority.
Proposals for the new visitor facility include a café with seating for around 20 customers, public toilets including accessible facilities, flexible community and exhibition space, outdoor seating and landscaping.
Five possible locations within Bramcote Hills Park were considered as part of the feasibility study.
A site close to the existing car park and play area has been selected as the preferred option.
Councillor Tyler Marsh, Broxtowe Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Environment, said: “Bramcote Hills is an incredibly popular site amongst our residents and beyond, and so I’m really excited to be able to progress this project.
“Feedback from our residents is vital in helping us shape the future of our parks and open spaces, and the lack of visitor facilities like a café and toilets at Bramcote Hills is feedback we hear often.
“We’ve listened, and are pushing forward to deliver for our residents, putting significant investment into this development.”
The council said the new facility could open in 2028, subject to funding being secured, planning permission and procurement.
