Bramley Apple Festival returns this month for 2026 event

The People’s Choice award will be an important attraction on Saturday 24th October when Southwell hosts its annual Bramley Apple Festival.

Sponsored by Newark and Sherwood District Council, The People’s Choice encourages visitors to browse the decorated shop windows around the town during the Festival and vote for their favourite display.

“We are delighted to make this award for the second year,” says Chairman Roger Merryweather, great-grandson of Henry Merryweather, who first propagated the Bramley Apple.

Major attractions include the Festival of Food and Drink at Southwell Minster with over 30 food and drink stalls and an impressive display of heritage apples.

Entries for the Bramley Apple Pie Baking Competition will be displayed at the Bramley Centre which will also see the crowning of the Bramley Apple King, Queen, Prince, and Princess.

Events at the National Trust’s Southwell Workhouse include the largest apple peel competition and performances from the pop-up Paupers Choir.

The original Bramley Apple tree at Church Street will be open for viewing during the day.

To enter the Baking Competition please pick up an entry form from the Bramley Centre. The deadline for entries is 17th October.

Forms for The People’s Choice Shop Window Competition will be available in the local shops.
