A woman has been left in a serious condition after being attacked in a garden.
A 42-year-old man was Tasered and arrested at the scene.
The victim suffered serious injuries and is currently being treated in hospital.
Response officers found a woman in a garden in Andover Road, Bestwood following a disturbance at around 6am today.
Armed response teams were also in attendance.
The severity of the victim’s injuries is still being assessed.
Inspector Gareth Harding, of Nottinghamshire’s public protection department, said: “We believe this was a self-contained incident involving two people who are known to each other and we have made a swift arrest at the scene. We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection to this investigation.
“Response and armed officers worked quickly at the scene and worked alongside ambulance colleagues to give the victim urgent care.
“This is an ongoing investigation and residents in the area will notice a visible police presence with officers going house-to-house while enquiries are being carried out.
“Whilst we understand this will be extremely concerning for local residents, we do not believe there to be a wider threat to the community as this is an isolated incident.
“We will be supporting the victim and her family and detectives will be working tirelessly to establish the full circumstances of what happened this morning.
“I would urge anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious to contact us as soon as possible.”
