BREAKING: Three new walk-in vaccination sites in Notts AND tens of thousands of appointments available in Notts from Monday

Three new walk-in vaccination sites will open to the public from Monday (20th December) alongside tens of thousands of additional bookable appointments going live in a huge drive to vaccinate the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire public against Covid-19.

The new walk-in sites will add to more than 50 vaccination sites already delivering the life-saving booster jab to the public. The new sites will open at 1pm – 5pm on Monday 20th December and will operate from 9am-5pm, 7 days a week following that. The sites are:

  • The Richard Herrod Leisure Centre, Gedling
  • The Victoria Health Centre, Glasshouse Street
  • The Newark Showground

The three new sites have been set up following the Prime Minister’s drive to vaccinate as many people as possible before the end of the year. The three sites will be walk-in sites and are each expected to administer up to 1,000 vaccines each day.

Existing appointment-only vaccination sites have also increased their appointments by thousands each day to allow people to get their jabs as soon as possible over the next three weeks.  These sites include dozens of community pharmacies in local neighbourhoods, hospital hubs at Queen’s Medical Centre and King’s Mill Hospital and also vaccination centres at the Forest Recreation Ground in Nottingham and on Chesterfield Road in Mansfield.

So far more than 73 per cent of over 50s in our area have received their booster and thousands of additional appointments have been made following the national drive. In Nottingham and Nottinghamshire nearly 40,000 appointments are available before the end of the year for all adults to book a booster, with more slots being added every day.

Amanda Sullivan, Accountable Officer at NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire CCG, said: “We hope these new walk-in venues will be able to help in driving forward the booster programme even faster as we know these are convenient, local and well-known settings for the public to quickly receive their jab.

“Our teams have been working hard to increase the capacity of our sites so that we can protect the public as quickly as possible. We have thousands and thousands of additional bookable appointments available between now and New Year’s Eve and more get added each day. My simple message to the public is to get a booster and protect yourself, protect your loved ones, and make sure you have a safe and Covid-free Christmas.”

As well as adding more sites, the local NHS has also increased the vaccination workforce, received support from the military and volunteers, and increased the number of appointments at all vaccination sites.

All adults aged 18 and over are eligible for a booster jab, appointments can be booked through 119 or on the NHS website. No appointment is needed for the new walk-in centres, but long queues might be encountered.  The public are advised to wrap up warm.
