Rushcliffe Country Park has been accredited as breastfeeding friendly in recognition of the welcoming and positive environment it provides for breastfeeding mothers.

The park, operated by Rushcliffe Borough Council, has been acknowledged as a welcoming atmosphere for parents, that staff are positive and supportive and the facilities offer a high standard of cleanliness.

The breastfeeding accreditation scheme is run by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, Nottinghamshire County Council and District and Borough Councils, encouraging organisations across the County to sign up to the initiative by downloading an assessment form at https://www.rushcliffe.gov.uk/health/breastfeeding/

Deputy Leader of the authority Cllr Debbie Mason visited the park along with Manager Keith Laing.

She said: “We are delighted to receive this certification at the Country Park, meaning that mothers feel welcome and safe at any point they need to feed their children.

“By working together with local partners and businesses, we hope to hope to empower breastfeeding mothers in Rushcliffe ensuring they are not discriminated against in any way.

“We encourage residents to let us know if they have had any positive experiences within a Rushcliffe establishment and for business owners to fill out a self-assessment form to apply to become accredited.”

Once the self-assessment form is completed, volunteers visit venues to talk to staff about what it means to be a breastfeeding mum when out and about and the importance of support from organisations.

The Rushcliffe Customer Contact Centre on Rectory Road in West Bridgford has also received certification and the Council is working towards gaining accreditations for all of its community venues.
