Breathe Easy Nottingham celebrates 20th Anniversary

A party attended by over 80 people took place this week to celebrate the 20th birthday of Breathe Easy Nottingham, sessions are held in West Bridgford.

Malcolm Ginever, Chair of Breathe Easy Nottingham said:

‘There are so many people to say thanks to for what had been achieved over the years.

‘A wonderful cake was donated by one of the group, a marvellous newsletter charting the story and a huge bumper raffle raising a staggering £250, with displays of photos throughout the years, an impressive buffet laid on by Welbeck Hall the home of Breathe Easy Nottingham, and a quiz all helped the party go with a swing.

‘Invitations went out to old friends and those who have helped make it such a successful organisation over the years, with endorsements from key speakers such as Professor Charlotte Bolton at NUH researching COPD and Covid 19, Dr Will Kinnear from NTU working on breathlessness, Dr Kelvin Lim a GP from Eastwood and partner member of the new Integrated Care Board, and Jo Newton from Asthma and Lung UK representing the national charity for all forms lung disease to which Breathe Easy Nottingham is affiliated.

Run by volunteers, it does not receive any funding except that which it raises or is given.

Its aim is to improve the quality of life for patients by providing information, activities, shared experiences and companionship, all to help keep people out of hospital.

It plugs a gap in health service provision by running two exercise classes each week, one on Zoom for those who can’t get out, and face-to-face sessions at the Sir Julien Cahn Pavilion in West Bridgford using respiratory-qualified trainers.

It can be a very scary experience for the newly diagnosed to be told that you have COPD.

Breathe Easy Nottingham members can show that you can live with the disease.
