Broadmarsh Car Park and Bus Station designs unveiled

PUBLISHED:

Redevelopment proposals for the Broadmarsh car park and bus station are moving forward, as the scheme has now been submitted for planning approval.

As demolition of the existing car park continues, and hot on the heels of the plans for Nottingham College’s City Hub, the designs of the new Broadmarsh bus station and car park have been revealed. Features include:

  • 1,397 parking spaces – almost 250 more than in the previous car park
  • High quality retail units on Carrington Street and Collin Street
  • A welcoming bus station environment
  • Three digital advertising screens
  • Electric charging points on each floor.

Mindful of the diverse and changing landscape in the area, the proposals for the new Broadmarsh car park and bus station are sympathetic to both the heritage of Carrington Street and the new designs for intu Broadmarsh, providing a bright and contemporary design that will stand the test of time. The new development will significantly improve the approach to the city centre from Nottingham Station.

The new building will include a new bus station with a welcoming and comfortable environment to serve the southern part of the city centre.

The car park includes charging points on each floor for collin st electric cars, with infrastructure in place to increase these as usage of electric cars increases. Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the building so it will generate and use its own energy. A mix of natural and mechanical ventilation will ensure a circulation of clean air in the building for its customers.

New retail units, with double height windows, will face on to Collin Street and Carrington Street, which will be pedestrianised under the Broadmarsh plans, to complement and enhance the existing city centre offer of shops and the forthcoming intu Broadmarsh redevelopment.

In addition, an application has been submitted for consent to operate three digital screens as part of the façade of the Broadmarsh Car Park. These would be installed on the corners of the building at Collin Street and Middle Hill, Collin Street and Carrington Street and finally at Canal Street and Carrington Street.

Councillor Jon Collins, Leader of the City Council, said: “We want an appealing, modern and bright new building on the reinvigorated Broadmarsh landscape

“The redeveloped building will include a new bus station, prominent high quality shops that will boost the area and complement the intu Broadmarsh redevelopment. Additional car parking spaces will give the city more of what it needs and mean more people will be able to visit the new Broadmarsh area.

The submission of the planning application means the public are now being invited to comment on the designs as part of the planning application process. To view the application and leave comments, please visit the Planning Portal on the Nottingham City Council website. The new designs will be considered at Planning Committee on Wednesday 21 February 2018.
