Bulk cocaine seizure and stabbing suspects arrested in Nottingham city incidents

Two stabbing suspects were arrested and multiple stashes of drugs were seized during separate incidents last Friday (23 May).

Several different policing teams were involved in the police activity – all of which was guided by intelligence gathered from the public.

Such information prompted Operational Support officers to spot a car in Mansfield Road, Redhill, that was linked to a stabbing the week before.

A 15-year-old boy sustained a slash wound to his face during that assault, which happened in Nansen Gardens, Bestwood on Saturday 17 May.

Based on local intelligence, officers pulled over the vehicle – around 7.30pm – and arrested two 18-year-old men on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Supported by the force’s knife crime team, searches were then carried out of the car that led to bulk amounts of crack cocaine and heroin being found on board too.

Following this discovery, the two suspects were additionally arrested on suspicion of possessing with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs.

They were both subsequently charged with the drug dealing offences and bailed with strict conditions in connection with the assault as police inquiries continue.

Both men are next due to attend Nottingham Crown Court for separate hearings on 16 June and 23 June.

Several hours before the car stop in Mansfield Road, the City North neighbourhood policing team were involved in a raid at a house in Bulwell that led to further arrests.

Officers executed the warrant in Quarry Avenue – around 2pm the same day – after receiving information the property was being used to house drugs.

These suspicions were proven right after around 200 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine were sniffed out by a police dog, while more Class A drugs were then found across the address.

Following these discoveries, a 44-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man located within the property were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

Both suspects were released under investigation.

Chief Inspector Mike Ebbins, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Conducting proactive vehicle stops and executing intelligence-led warrants are two of the key techniques our officers regularly use to tackle crime across Nottingham.

“We rely on information shared by the public to identify our targets and to build up a picture of activity.

“I can assure you that we review all the information you tell us about and that we take everything you share with us seriously.

“Last Friday’s police activity in the City North area should serve as an example of how we actively develop and action any intelligence we receive.

“These reports play an invaluable role in helping us detect and respond to crime, so I would urge the public to continue sharing their concerns with the police on 101, or to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
