Officers have released CCTV images of a man they wish to trace after an “appalling” attack on a 75-year-old man waiting for the tram.
The incident happened just after 4pm on Thursday 10 October at the Bulwell Forest tram platform.
A 75-year-old man was waiting for his tram when he was approached by an intoxicated man drinking from a beer can.
He punched the elderly man in the ribs and threatened to stab him.
The victim managed to get away from the suspect and board a tram to Hucknall. The suspect stayed on the platform before also boarding a tram.
Officers have carried out a number of lines of inquiry to identify the suspect which has included examining CCTV footage. No arrests have been made yet.
Police have now released CCTV images of a man they wish to trace who could help officers with their investigation.
PC Lisa Hopkin, who is investigating the incident, said:
“This appalling incident has understandably caused the victim immense distress.
“He was left very shaken by the suspect’s intimidating and threatening behaviour.
“Luckily, he was not seriously injured. However, this does not take away how seriously we are treating this incident.
“Using threats to stab someone is completely unacceptable and we are determined to catch the person responsible and ensure they are put before the courts.
“We have released images of a man that could help us with our inquiries. We are calling on the public’s help to identify him.
“Do you know the man in the images? Are you the man in the images? Please get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
