A burglar who was found hiding in a garden has been jailed after detectives linked him to two break-ins.
Konrad Michalik was found outside the address in Cyprus Avenue, Beeston, at around 8.40pm on 22 September 2024.
The burglary victim had been in her living room when she heard a sound in her hallway.
A short time later, she heard her front door closing, and when she went to investigate, she came face-to-face with an intruder.
The woman locked the door and called the police, with officers arriving at the scene quickly enough to detain Michalik in the garden.
Nothing had been stolen during the break-in, but Michalik was linked through forensic investigations to an earlier break-in on 13 September 2024 in Yew Tree Avenue, Carrington.
The victim was asleep when he discovered an intruder inside his home.
He confronted the man, now known to be Michalik, who became aggressive when the victim asked to see what he had inside his bag.
It was later discovered that a watch, as well as clothes and cash, were missing.
Michalik’s fingerprint was found in the bathroom of the property.
Michalik, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and was sentenced to eight months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday (13 March).
Detective Constable Nathan Wall, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“Both these victims unfortunately came face-to-face with an intruder inside their home.
“We know what a frightening and unsettling experience this can be for anyone.
“It is just one of the reasons why the force has teams of detectives working hard on this sort of investigation.
“Detectives should be commended for their thorough investigation, and I’d also like to thank the officers who arrived at the scene so promptly in order to arrest Michalik, as well as the scenes of crime officers who found his fingerprint.”
