A man has been sentenced to five years in prison after he burgled a house in Misterton.
A couple had returned home following an overnight stay in October to find their patio doors had been smashed and multiple items of jewellery, watches and a handbag had been taken.
Michael Scholey was identified after his DNA was matched to blood found at the scene. He was located in prison having been remanded in custody in connection with other burglaries in South Yorkshire.
The 44-year-old, of Station Road in Stainforth, Doncaster, appeared at Sheffield Crown Court via video yesterday (Thursday 14 May 2020) having pleaded guilty on 9 April to the Misterton burglary. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison for the Misterton offence to run consecutively with the four years he was given for the South Yorkshire offences.
Detective Sergeant of Nottinghamshire Police’s burglary team Andy Hall said: “We take burglaries really seriously in Nottinghamshire which is why we have the team working around the clock, dedicated to investigating such crimes.
“It’s horrific for anyone to have their privacy invaded in this way and to come home to find all their personal belongings have been rifled through and taken.
“I’m glad that we were able to quickly prove that Scholey was behind this crime through evidence left the scene and my team will continue their hard work in leaving no stone unturned in bringing offenders to justice.”
