Can you help Compton Acres Charity Knitters?

The group was formed on the 10th January 2019 following a Facebook post by Petra Westlake.

Petra asked if anyone would be interested in setting up a knitting group to knit for NUH Neonatal unit and their premature babies, the homeless and for those that suffer with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

The response was immediate, and the group now has 26 members whose knitting ranges from very basic to very advanced.

Petra said:

‘We are a very friendly group and we meet on the first Tuesday of every month in the Appletree, Compton Acres – we do get some very odd looks.’

Progress to date:

  • We have made two deliveries to the neonatal unit, the number of items knitted totalling
    • 79 items in March
    • 61 in May
    • We have two twiddle muffs ready for those suffering with Alzheimer’s or dementia and would like to do some more so we can deliver them
    • Several hats made up for the homeless, but we need more hats, scarfs, cowls and dog jumpers so we can deliver In September ready for when the weather gets really nasty

If anyone would like to join our group, we can be found on Facebook just search for Compton Acres Charity knitters. If anyone would like to donate any materials/ yarn for our knitting and to support our causes, please let us know via a message on the page.

The Yarns we need are as follows:

Baby wool either 4ply or double knit (must be acrylic)

Chunky wool for the twiddle muffs and any bits of lace/ fabric, buttons or anything we can add that gives more texture and triggers the senses.
