A man tried to evade arrest by flushing a large quantity of cannabis down the toilet when officers knocked at his door.
The 31-year-old raced to the bathroom when he realised officers were on his tail and attempted to flush away the evidence.
However, the cannabis was found floating in the toilet, and he was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class B drug.
A 39-year-old woman who was also at the property was arrested for the same offence.
Both remain on police bail while investigations continue into the scale of the operation.
Officers attended Colchester Road in Strelley on Friday, 14 February, over concerns that the property was being used to house drugs.
They arrived at around 8.10 am and knocked on the door. When the occupants refused to answer, the door was sawn open.
Police immediately went upstairs, where they saw their suspect attempting to flush large quantities of cannabis down the toilet.
A search of the property uncovered more cannabis, scales, and deal bags. Police also seized a number of knives, including a machete.
Sergeant Mark Southgate, from Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“It never surprises me how far some people will go to get rid of evidence when police come knocking at their door.
“This suspect thought that tipping excessive amounts of cannabis into his toilet would prevent us from carrying out a thorough investigation and making an arrest.
“Luckily, cannabis floats, and he was caught in the act.
“As a force, we will continue to flush out any operation concerning the supply or production of drugs.
“Cannabis brings real harm to our communities, including anti-social behaviour and serious violence.
“Anyone who thinks they can profit from dealing cannabis will be caught, arrested, and put before the courts.”
