Cannabis grow discovered over multiple floors of Nottingham property

Police discovered a cannabis grow after a report by a concerned member of the public.

The property was found unsecured with the door kicked in when officers arrived at Andover Road, Bestwood on Monday (20 December).

Inside they found a cannabis grow with plants on multiple floors and the loft in the process of being converted.

Officers also discovered that the electricity meter had been bypassed.

Police Constable Anna Parkin, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Removing this cannabis grow has made the neighbourhood safer. As we saw in this case, cannabis production can lead to further crime as they can be targeted by criminals who break in to try to steal it.

“In some cases this can be rival gangs who are prepared to use violence against their competitors.

“This can bring violence and disruption to communities. They can also be extremely dangerous, as the sheer amount of heat involved from an illegally bypassed electricity supply poses a hugely increased fire risk to neighbouring properties.

“That is why it is really important that if people have suspicions about drug production, they should call the police, so we can prevent this type of crime and risks coming to their doorsteps.

“The force remains committed to doing everything it can to tackle drug-related crime and I would urge anyone with information to come forward.”

Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to call 101, quoting incident 184 of 20 December 2021.
