Cannabis plants worth up to £500,000 were discovered during a police raid in Newark yesterday. (Sunday 21 June)
Officers, supported by an aerial drone and Police off-road quad-bike, raided a series of mobile homes and shipping containers in Tolney Lane, Newark, shortly after 6.30 pm.
A total of 511 cannabis plants were recovered and a 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drugs offences.
The raid is the latest in a string of high profile cannabis seizures for Nottinghamshire Police.
Inspector Heather Sutton, District Commander for Newark and Sherwood, said:
“Yesterday’s intelligence-led raid was a coordinated team effort involving more than 40 officers.
“This was a large-scale and sophisticated cannabis grow and I am delighted that we’ve been able to find and dismantle it.
“I am aware that some people see the production of cannabis as a victimless crime but they really couldn’t be more wrong.
“Cannabis is an addictive and potentially harmful drug that damages the lives of people in our community. In many cases it can also be linked to organised crime and other offences of violence. So, if you are involved in the production of cannabis then my message is clear: we could very well be paying you a visit next.”
Officers from the Newark Neighbourhood Policing Team will remain in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance to local residents.
