Police quickly arrested a suspect after two cars were broken into at a tram stop car park.
Officers were called to Wilkinson Street Park and Ride, New Basford, following reports a man was acting suspiciously around some of the cars.
After arriving at the scene at around 4.50 pm on Tuesday (7 February), response officers carried out a search of the area and found a man hiding in the car park.
Following a short foot pursuit, the suspect was detained and searched, which led to a screwdriver then being discovered in his possession.
Shortly afterwards, two people returning to their cars informed the police that their vehicles had been broken into.
Nothing was taken from inside either car, although both vehicles sustained damage.
A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of going equipped for theft, attempted theft from a motor vehicle, and criminal damage.
Detective Sergeant Al Roper, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Thanks to the swift response of our officers, we were able to locate and arrest a suspect within minutes of receiving this report.
“Returning to your car to find it’s been broken into is undoubtedly a very distressing experience that nobody should have to go through.
“Break-ins of this nature do occur however, so we’re committed to doing whatever we can to ensure incidents like this are as rare as possible.
“We are still carrying out inquiries to establish what happened, so we’d ask anyone with any further information to call the police on 101, quoting incident 521 of 7 February 2023.”
