Charge after knife incident near Old Market Square

Detectives investigating a knife-related incident in Nottingham city centre have charged a suspect.

The incident took place around 1.10 pm on Monday (9 June) in Long Row when a teenager suffered a minor injury to his arm, believed to be from a bladed weapon, during a fight.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested a short time later on suspicion of affray and has been bailed with strict conditions.

Following further inquiries, a second 15-year-old boy was arrested on Wednesday (11 June) and has now been charged with affray and possession of a knife in a public place.

The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday (13 June) and will next appear at the same court on 18 June 2025.

Officers also continue to investigate an earlier incident, in Old Market Square around 11.50am on Monday, in which a man aged in his 30s was stabbed.

He suffered injuries which are not life-altering or life-threatening in nature.

A team of detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.

Chief Superintendent Nick Waldram, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“Detectives are investigating both incidents with all the tools at their disposal and I hope the community welcomes our robust response.

“Patrols have also been stepped up, utilising both high-visibility and plain clothes tactics, and they will continue.

“We have been very clear that there is absolutely no excuse to be carrying a knife anywhere in Nottinghamshire. You will be seen, stopped and arrested.

“We know that witnessing an incident of this nature can be extremely upsetting and would urge anyone who needs to access advice or support to visit Home – Remedi Victimcare

“The force’s work alongside our partners to educate people about the devastating impact of carrying a knife is ongoing.”
