The National Clubs U14 Finals brings together the top 18 teams in the under 14 age category from across the country. The 18 teams will consist of the winners and runners up from the 9 regional competitions that take place throughout the season. This is something Cliftonettes have not achieved in over 6 years.
Match report from Head Coach, Chloe Gibson,
The national journey started at the Nottinghamshire rounds progressing via the regional rounds to take their place at the National Finals in Birmingham over the 27th / 28th May. From over 100 clubs that took part, Cliftonettes Jade proudly took their place in the final 18, being one of the two teams that represented the East Midlands.
The team had a superb tournament. Saturday saw us win 2 out of 2 games played in our morning section, Beating Yendys from Birmingham 16:14 and then a nail biter beating Braintree from Essex 12:11, this meant we went into the afternoon section top of our group.
In the afternoon session we came up against some strong opposition in Poole (who eventually finished 3rd) and Leeds Athletic (who finished 7th overall), with these 2 losses it meant on Sunday we would be playing off for 13 to 18th place. On the Sunday Cliftonettes got their first win under their belts beating CFX from London & South East 26:19. The second Pool game found us against local team Rutland Rockets from Leicestershire the girls remained calm and won 14:13. This win meant we would be playing off for 13th/14th place.
In the final game of the day we came up against a very strong and physical side in Essex Met from London and South East, this was a game too far for the girls and we lost 12:14.
This group of girls can be proud of what they have achieved, not just finishing 14th in the country at Nationals, but coming 2nd place in the Nottingham City tournament in the Plate, 3rd in their first season in the Senior league, remaining undefeated all season in the East Midlands U14 regional league, Winning the Notts qualifying tournament undefeated all day and 2nd place in the East Midlands regional Qualify tournament.
Quote from Head Coach Chloe Gibson: I have been with this squad since they were nine years of age, and am so proud of not just this national tournament but their complete journey through the junior section of Cliftonettes Netball Club to where they are now. They are a credit to both club and parents.
I would also like to thank all the companies and people that helped support the girls in their quest at nationals, providing them with kit and memories that can never be taken away.
